How do I lift a 15ft boat off the ground and on to a trailer, without damaging the boat?
When we bought our house it had a really old boat at the back of the lot. This boat has a trailer to go with it, but the boat is on the ground. We have never had a boat before so don’t know a lot about them. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Heavy duty moving straps & a hoist.

This actually pretty easy. Back the trailer (by hand) to the bow of the boat. Pull the winch line or strap all the way back and clip it on the bow eye bolt of the boat. At this point examine the strap or rope for rot or wear. If it is suspect, put on a new one. You wouldn’t want it to snap and whip you in the face. Lift the tongue of the trailer so the first roller is near the bow of the boat and start cranking the winch. When the boat is touching the trailer roller, tip the tongue way up and keep cranking. The bow of the boat will rise and the trailer will start pulling under the boat as you crank. The boat stays in one place and the trailer creeps beneath it as you crank. At some point the boat will be far enough on the trailer that the weight will start to bring down the trailer tongue. At this point put down the trailer tongue and keep cranking until the boat is fully in place. Be sure and tie the boat onto the trailer before towing it.

Joe has my vote too! but would have you inspect the back of the trailer for good rollers or bunks. If they are bad or worse have a big piece of angle iron sticking up you will need to deal with it. If all you do is block up that boat off the offending iron you can proceed. But if your keeping it all, you might want to service the trailer for rollers ,lights and wheel bearings before you drop that boat on it.
